It’s occurred to me that I haven’t been blogging much the past few weeks. I seek to change this in the near future.
As I’m not at Amazon now I will focus on a few things including finding more work, development of my art and trying to create prints and, of course, writing more blogs as I go.
With the new beauty and the beast film coming out next year, plus me being obsessed with the new trailer, I had to try and sketch beast.
Here’s the result..
I drew this with a simple fineliner pen.
I have drawn a few more and you’ll find them on my Instagram page “danielmawbyart”.
For now that’s it.
See you all soon.
Experiment; to try out new ideas or methods.
This week I’ve been changing things up a bit. By this mean, instead of using my traditional pencil or graphite stick, I’ve tried my hand at using inks and water or ink washes.
I started with this, my rendition of the new beast design from the new Disney live action Beauty and the beast as i loved it:Initially it just started out as a simple fineliner line sketch. I then wondered if water would affect the ink and create a wash like shading, which of curse it did.
From there i went a little nuts haha:
My rendition of Buckbeak the Hippogriff from Harry Potter. I was so happy with how the trees in the background came out. To do this I moved the pen in a circular motion creating small but heavy tight circles that easily merged together when the wash was added. I used faint lines to create the lighter tones.
At the moment I’m slightly obsessed with pugs, so I just had to draw one haha. I used a mixture of a light and heavy lines for the shading and tones. I’m especially happy with how the eyes came out.
I’ve been reading a fair bit of the Ghost Rider Marvel comic books recently, and I was curious to see if I could recreate the flames. I think I did a pretty good job of it. Once again I used heavy lines and swirling patterns for the darker shaded areas as I needed multiple layers of ink and light lines for the rest.
I did a few others but you cant see them on my instagram account under the name of danielmawbyart.
Other than these I haven’t been drawing much due to working nights but I’m enjoying that to.
Well that’s it for now I think. I do enjoy typing down my artistic exploits for your entertainment and I hope to encourage you all to be creative with the time you have.
See you later!
It’s been a while since I have had the opportunity to grab my camera and snap some photos since I started working but tonight I couldn’t resist and this photo I took tonight shows why..
“Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars.” Les Brown

I used this quote as it perfectly illustrates the mood I had when I saw the moon and rushed to grab my camera. Using my trusty tripod (don’t make up your own jokes) I set up my celestial photo shoot and received some pleasing results. Now I did this sometime back and at the time experimented with exposure and fps etc..but this time around, as i’d previously forgotten to make notes on what works and what doesn’t, I couldn’t remember what worked so I stuck with intelligent auto.
I just wanted to note why I love to photograph the moon, well just look at it! Its the most beautiful object in the night sky that can be seen with the naked eye, I’ve always loved how it’s reflected light illuminates the clouds and roof tops, and when I’ve been walking alone on a clear night it feels like its accompanying me on my journey (which I’m aware sounds alittle odd haha).
Here are a couple of shots from the moon shoot I did last year.
As I said, I didn’t note anything down (something I will start doing from now on) but the camera I use is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ72 so if you know the best night shoot results or you’re just experimenting then let me know.
I also took a few photos of the stars and managed to get a couple of good shots, by all means let me know what you think.
I wanted to upload not only the ones I liked the most but some of the others as I was still experimenting with the intelligent auto.
Like I said let me know about, any photography/night photography tips and tricks and if you liked these pics.
Bye for now!
Sat in the amazon canteen bored stiff, I really should have brought a sketch pad with me. For me to describe the canteen effectively I would say colourful. Blues, reds, greens and yellows. And those are just the chairs!
Hello by the way haha. I thought I’d talk a little bit about what I do other than drawing and art, incase you might be wondering.
I’ve worked at Amazon for a week now, well a week and a day to be specific, and it’s a great job. Tiring but great.
What do I do at Amazon?
I am what’s known as a receiver. I unbox items, “recieve” them (bet you didn’t see that coming) and send them to another department.
There isn’t much more to add to that really.
Bye for now!
Well here I am, struggling to come up with words for my first ever blog. That’s right my first ever blog.
I plan on writing about my art work, why I chose such things to draw or paint or whatever really.
You maybe wondering why I joined WordPress in the first place. Well having read through Marzia Bisognins (youtuber cutiepie) latest blog and remembering the great creative writing streams of cody (excessive profanity Twitch) I’d been itching to write something since. I want to be honest as they are in my blogs and feature such things as; the artists that inspire me, why I have drawn the things that I have drawn and my overall day to day activities.
I am in no doubt that in 5 years time I may look back on this blog (hi dan!) view the work I have done here today and cringe terribly. Something which happened today (courtesy of a specific app that looks back on your social media career) with a sketch of myself as the beast, the Ron Perlman version, some 5 years back. I compared it to a recent fanart I’d done yesterday of a much more detailed and realistic version on the same character. Having compared the two pieces my newer, more recent, influences were shining through the newer piece. Influences like the famed comic book artist Lee Bermejo and Dave Mckean.
Now, you may ask ” why did you draw the beast?”. Well, I love drawing characters that are unusual, characters that look vicious or scary but have hearts of gold and broken souls, characters that have made mistakes. I’ve also expressed a liking for the concept of man into monster, like vampires, werewolves and the Hulk.
Right, well for now that’s all you’re getting for now. I will try and blog once a week or so and hopefully it takes off from there.
See you later! and thanks for reading. #firstblog #art
